Wat Traimit

However, there is another spot with a more impressive and special architecture that tourists should not miss is Wat Traimit (also known as the Golden Buddha temple) – one of the most famous sacred religious temples located in the Chinatown area right at the heart of the capital city.

The solid Golden Buddha image casted during the Sukhothai area was originally stored in the ancient capital Ayutthaya. When the war happened, people did not want the Burmese to stole or damage that statue, so they covered it with a cement layer. For centuries, the true value of the statue was not found until the 1950s. The monument with more than 3 meters in height, five and a half tons weight, and dated back to 700 to 800 years ago forming it the largest golden Buddha image in the world.

Wat Traimit has an interesting museum on the third floor displaying information related to the mysterious history of the Golden Buddha including a video representation and a long story of the sculpture. The second floor is where tourists get knowledge about the history of the traders coming from China. Local people often use the garlands made from jasmine to make their promises at the temple.
