Drive to Phitsanuloke, an important and historic city on the banks of the Nan River.
Founded over 600 years ago, Phitsanulok is one of the oldest cities in Thailand and used serve as the capital of Kingdom of Ayutthaya for 25 years from 1463. The charming city of Phisanulok is home of several prominent ancient royal vestiges as well as religious monuments.
Visit to Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahatat (Wat Mahathat/Wat Yai), famous throughout Thailand for its 700 years old golden sculpture of the Buddha called the Phra Buddha Chinnarat that is considered to the most beautiful Buddha portrait in Thailand. Continue to the Local History and Cultural Museum to learn about the history and culture, tradition of the place and the country.
After the visit, proceed with one hour drive to Sukhothai.
Meaning “the dawn of happiness”, Sukothai is a small, beautiful city in Lower Northern Thailand, most famous for the ruins of the ancient city Sukhothai which was the first capital of Siam during the 13th century at the dawn and golden age of Thai history. The place is considered the cradle of Thai civilization, art and architecture with around 200 ancient temples have been excavated and partly reconstructed recently.
Visit to the Sukhothai Historical Park. Here you will wander around and visit the ruins of the Royal Palaces, Buddhist temples, the city gates, walls, moats, dams, ditches, ponds canals and the water dyke control system which was the magical and spiritual center of the Kingdom are now preserved and restored by the Fine Arts Department with the cooperation of UNESCO.
