Siam Reap

Known as the gateway to the famous World Heritage site, the Angkor, Siem Reap is one of the popular most destinations in Cambodia. This town is the capital of Siem Reap city in Northwestern Cambodia.

In the early 16th century, King Ang Chan had name this town Siem Reap. In Khmer, it means the “Flat Defeat of Siam”, refers to the history and the victory between the Khmer people and the Siamese kingdoms.

Siam Reap’s attraction

Visiting Siem Reap, most visitors will not miss the main attractions such as Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and other Angkor monuments. The Angkor Archaeological Park stretches over about 400 square kilometers, containing the magnificent remains of several Khmer Empire capitals from the 9th to the 15th centuries. Those are the ancient temples, irrigation works (basins, dykes, reservoirs, canals) as well as communication routes and the largest pre-industrial city in the World.

The temples of Angkor has difference in scale but most of them are highly symbolic structures. Since Hinduism is one of the official religions of the Khmer, the temples which has temple-mountain concept are built as a representation of mythical Mount Meru and surrounded by moats. The biggest example is Angkor Wat, the largest Hindu temple in the world.

At the end of the city tour, you can enjoy a dinner with Apsara Dance performance or shopping at the Old Market, Angkor Night market, walking at Pub Street and explore the nightlife with a number of pubs and bars.
