Banlung

Banlung is a small town that is considered the capital of Ratanakiri Province in Eastern Cambodia which is mainly forested and this land is also the homeland of 12 different ethnic minority groups who settled down a long time ago and living by producing agriculture (rubber, cashews, and oil palms).

Banlung was known to be a perfect site for trekking Banlung and ecotourism with treetop Ecolodge Banlung. As mentioned above, Ratanakiri is a mountainous area and the weather is tropical climate then rainforest is developed together with the rich fauna and flora making this site to be the perfect place for outdoor activities and trekking. Besides, Banlung has many natural and cultural attractions such as waterfall, lakes, natural parks, hill tribe villages, and markets for tourists to discover the wild and vivid nature and local life of the Ratanakiri.

Yeak Laom Volcanic Lake is a must-see lake located in Yeak Laom commune which was created from hundreds of million years of the volcanic crater. Everyone ever came here admired this beautiful lake not only by the clear and clean water surface but also the vivid and lush natural scenery surrounded by diverse plants, animals and birds living around and the lush jungle with green and old big trees. This is home to the local minorities with their legend about the lake. Visiting Wat Rahtanharahm on Eisey Patamak Mountain which is about 1 kilometer far from the town to catch the spectacular view and the countryside is also an interesting experience you should not miss.

There is some famous waterfall such as Cha Ong with 18 meter high which is considered as the most toured waterfall there, Kan Chang waterfall where you can swim on it like a clear pool, Ka Tieng waterfall in the jungle which is about 10 meters high…

Virachey National park which is the border of Laos and Viet Nam is another trekking option for tourists if they come to Banlung. This trekking trail offers you an interesting experience and a chance to discover the tropical nature of Eastern Laos.

To reach Banlung, tourists can travel by bus or private van from Phnom Penh (more than 350 km). You can stop to visit Stung Treng and Kratie when planning to visit Banlung or you can travel from Pleiku Viet Nam to Banlung through the border gate.
