Dark Cave’s 5 km depth fully explored

The Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park’s Dark cave with total depth of more than 5km containing impressive millions year old stalagmites and stalactites just has been successfully explored by cavers and experts, said Mr Le Thanh Loi, Director of the National Park.

Inside, there is a complicated system of ancient karst with lots of stalagmites and stalactites dating hundreds of millions of years together with clues proving the movements and changes of the crust also found.
The inner terrain is diverse and beautiful allowing some types of adventure activities such as trekking, rock climbing and swimming when it is opened to public.

The cave was discovered by Royal British Cavers in 1990 and 1992. The cave has its mouth 20 meter wide, 40 meter high and with the total length of 5.258 meters. The cave’s ceiling at some part is up to 80 meter high. In 2011, the first portion of 400 meters close to the cave mouth was opened to public for the first time and some facilities such as zip line, water sport and mud bath were added in 2014 attracting a number of both local and foreign tourists.

The National Park Management Board is finishing all final researches and related documents to bring the whole cave to public in 2015. It is expected to be a great destination for nature and adventure lovers along their discovery to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
