Monywa

Monywa, situated on the east bank of the Chinwin River, is the seventh largest city in North Myanmar, and is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. In recent years, the loosening of Indian borders has allowed for the passage of waterways to Mandalay, making it more accessible.

Monywa is famous for many things, including its rich history. It was here that King Alaungpaya conquered Manipura in 1758, and where fossils of prehistoric people were found in the Pon Daung Pon Nya mountain range, dating back 30 million years. The city is also home to many incredible sights, including the Shwe Gu Ni Pagoda, Thanbodhay Pagoda, Monywa Town, Nyaunggan City, Htan Ta Loke Stream, Kyaukka Village, Maha Bodhi Tahtaung, and the Aung Sakkya Temple.

Visitors can reach Monywa by plane, train, or car, or by water from Mandalay. The city has a tropical monsoon climate, with the rainy season typically occurring from May to October. To avoid the rain, the best time to visit is from November to April.
