Located in Wat Naviengkham village and lying on the road behind Souphanouvong Monument (about 12 minutes walking from Luang Prabang city center), the UXO Laos Visit Center is one of the sights that history lovers should not miss in their trip to Laos.
The UXO Laos Visit Center can be considered a small museum where people display real-life bombers and weapons, record impressive survivor stories, and show a documentary about the challenged and difficult process of cleaning up remaining bombers in a viewing room. All of them provide a great overview of the bad affection of the bombs falling in Laos during the “Secret War” for 9 years from 1964 to 1973. On average, the Americans bombed this country every 8 minutes and the number of unexploded mini-bombs is estimated at about 80 million which endanger Laos people‘s present life. Visiting this place, we have to pay attention to the problems that Laos, the most heavily bombed country per capita in history, still has to deal with today and how they prevent as well as overcome it.
The UXO Laos Visit Center opens from Monday to Friday during the daytime. The entrance is free and donations are encouraged.
