Vietnam Airlines and Air France to Resume Partnership from March 26th

03 March 2023

Vietnam Airlines has announced the resumption of its joint venture agreement with Air France after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Nguyen Tien Hoang, the head of Vietnam Airlines' branch in France and Europe, the joint service between the two airlines will offer customers additional flight options and optimised products and services between France, Europe, and Vietnam.

The joint venture agreement was first launched in 2017 but was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic's impact. However, it will now take effect from March 26 with the aim of strengthening linkages among the respective transshipment centres, namely Hanoi-based Noi Bai International Airport, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, and Charles de Gaulle in Paris – one of the world's largest gateways.

Under the deal, Air France will operate flights on the Hanoi-Paris route six times a week, using modern wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft. Vietnam Airlines will operate flights on the Ho Chi Minh City-Paris route with flight numbers AF258 and AF253.

France is one of the largest and most important markets for Vietnam Airlines in Europe, having launched its first direct flight to Paris in 2003. In 2019, about 570,000 passengers took Vietnam Airlines flights between Vietnam and France – a period before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
