Ban Phanom weaving village

Ban Phanom is a weaving village located around 15 kilometers outside of Luang Prabang, not far from the Pa Phon Phao temple. The people residing here earn their livings mainly by manufacturing woven items made from cotton and silk, which are popularly sold at the local markets. Some of the families run their workshops while most of the entire villagers establish the co-operative supplying to collectors in town. In general, the prices of these weaving products are affordable and you are still able to bargain for a better deal.

Ban Phanom was used to be one of the most preferred suppliers for royal textiles for such a long time when Laos was administered by a King. The region owns a lot of interesting things about history, culture, and weaving skills that tourists can explore in some other villages throughout the country (Sam Neua, Luang Namtha…) where the traditional ancient techniques are still used. The area surrounded Ban Phanom village is a perfect place for biking and visiting ancient temples. If you are interested in getting an insight into ancient art and purchasing weaving products as souvenirs for your family then it is worth spending time at Ban Phanom village instead of buying textiles at the night market along the street.
