After being granted an e-visa, touristrs are allowed unlimited entries and exits within a period of 90 days without the need to apply for a new visa.
The validity of electronic visas (e-visas) will be extended from 30 to 90 days. The government determines the list of countries and territories whose citizens are eligible for e-visas and the list of international border gates where tourists can enter or exit using e-visas.
See list of countries are eligiable for Vietnam e-visa.
The Law also allows citizens of certain countries to be unilaterally exempted from visas and granted temporary residence for 45 days (previously 15 days), and their visa issuance and temporary residence extension will be considered according to regulations.
See list of countries are exempted from Vietnam Visa.
The procedures are simple and convenient, as tourists are not required to visit Vietnamese representative offices abroad or go through intermediary procedures to apply for visas. Additionally, the electronic visa issuance process involves pre-approval, which helps immigration authorities filter out individuals who are not eligible for entry, thus meeting the requirements of immigration management.
Currently, e-visas are issued by the Immigration Department through an electronic transaction system and are valid for a single entry. Vietnam currently grants e-visas to citizens of 80 countries.
This law will come into effect on August 15, 2023.
