Edinburgh, United Kingdom: Sunday 31st October 2021, in the presence of Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who is in the UK for the COP26 meet, Vietnamese carrier Bamboo Airways announced the first Vietnam – UK direct flight route.
Direct flights will be commenced as early as the resumption of commercial flights between the two countries is allowed, said Trinh Van Quyet, Chairman of the Bamboo Airways.
Bamboo Airways expects to operate six round trips per week between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and London. Frequency of flight will be gradually increased according to market demand.
Direct flight will help shorten the travel time between Vietnam and the UK to just about 12 hours, saving 7 hours in comparison to transit flights.
Operated by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, flights are expected to pick up and drop off passengers at Terminal 2 of Heathrow Airport, connecting Vietnam's key airports with the UK's largest international one.
APG UK, a passenger and cargo representation company was declared as Bamboo Airways’s representative in the United Kingdom and will support the airline with policies and procedures, sales, marketing, and customer support.
Before the breakout of Covid-19, in 2019 alone, Vietnam received more than 315,000 visitors from the UK, according to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). This number was double the one of 2018 and was expected to be increasing if not affected by the pandemic. And, among the European countries, UK has the second largest number of tourists to Vietnam.
Besides, there are currently over a hundred thousand Vietnamese living and studying in the UK, 60% are in London so, the launch of these direct flights will help a lot for travelling between the two countries.
These direct flights would help very much to boost both commercial and culture exchange as well as promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in many fields, said Mr Nguyen Hoang Long, Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.K.
Also at the event, Bamboo Airways officially launched APG UK - General agent representing the airline in the UK market. This unit will support Bamboo Airways in procedures and policies with the local government for its air transport service; promote sales and marketing activities, market research; coordinate management of service policy, customer care and flight operations in the UK...
