Laos - weather & travel conditions in October

October offers good weather condition for travel in Laos. The country is now about to get out of the rainy season and cool temperatures prevail in most parts especially toward the end of the month.
Luang Nam Tha, Phong Sa Ly, Oudomxay and other areas in the mountainous north of the country enjoy the nice weather with moderate heat and humidity, lots of bright days and very little rains. Average temperatures stay at around 26-28oC during daytimes and can be as low as 18oC at night.
Vientiane and Luang Prabang are pretty the same in term of weather with lots blue sky and bright sunshine. Rains become uncommon during this time and average temperatures stay around 30oC.
Savannakhet, Champasak and other highlights in the southern part of Laos such as Pakse, Bolaven Pleateau & the 4000 Island all are basking in bright sunshine with temperatures range between 30-31oC and rainfall very much less than that of previous few months. 

Events

Boun Ok Phansa
The festival is celebrated on the day of the full moon to mark the end of the three-month Buddhist Lent. On the first day at dawn, donation and offerings are made to monks and temples around. Candlelight processions will be then held around the temples and people gather to the nearest body of water to release hundred of colorful floats decorated with flower, incense and candle to rivers in thanksgiving to the river spirit.
There are also very exciting long dug-out boat racings on Mekong River in Vientiane and other main cities of Laos on the next day.

October is amongst good months to travel to Laos. Apart from good weather that has newly returned from rainy season, you can also enjoy the advantage of low number of visitors at sites.
Your itinerary can be easily drafted with all the highlights on the entire length of the country.
Mountainous north of the country returns with good conditions for adventure discoveries whilst main sites such as Luang Prabang and Vientiane become much more charming and very suitable for wanderlust.
