Laos - weather & travel conditions in December

December is amongst the best months to travel to and in Laos. The country now in full of dry season and the weather is so moderate and dry with the temperature is coolest of the year promising great traveling conditions throughout the entire length of the country.
In the northern mountainous area including Luang Nam Tha, Phong Sa Ly and Oudomxay the weather is cool with temperatures around 24oC during the daytimes and can be cold at nights. The condition is totally dry with around 7 hours of sunshine daily.
Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Xiang Khoang (Plain of Jars) also enjoy nice weather with blue sky and dry days. Temperatures range around 25-26oC during daytimes and minimum 15oC during the nights.
Savannakhet, Champasak and other highlights in the southern part of Laos such as Pakse, Bolaven Pleateau & the 4000 Island all offer great weather condition with around 8 hours of sunshine daily and temperatures is at 29-30C. 

Events

Lao National Day
Organized on December 2nd to celebrate the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in 1975. There are quite lots public activities and shows held around the country including processions, parades, music performances and dancing. Streets are colorful with national flags and banners.

Hmong New Year
Celebrated at the beginning of December in Vientiane, Oudomxay, Xiengkhouang, Luang Prabang and any place inhabited by the H’mong people. The celebration features colorful displays of traditional costumes as well as typical culture of the tribe. Music from traditional Hmong instruments are played along with lots of other festive activities such as cotton-ball throwing ceremony, ox fighting, spinning-top races and crossbow demonstrations.

That Inhang Festival
The festival is held on the ground of the splendid That Inhang Stupa just outside the city of Savannakhet. The festival is associated with a trade fair that display tourism products from Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. There are also performances of traditional music and sports competition. 

How to do and what to expect if travel to Laos in December

December is no doubt a great month to travel to and in Laos. The weather and travel conditions are suitable for any type of travel and activity in any place on the entire length of the country.
If you connect your holiday from Thailand then just cross the border at Chiang Khong to Huay Xai, Laos and visit the northern mountain areas before heading southward. A brief visit can also be made to Vientiane, Luang Prabang and some main destination in the centre of Laos when you connect your trip from Vietnam, Thailand or Cambodia with flight or bus transfer. If you plan to make an adventure to the mountainous north of the country where the weather normally drops cold at nights then suitable warm clothing is recommended.
