Hanoi – Binh Lieu village experience

Depart Hanoi at at 8:00 AM on a scenic drive along the highway to Binh Lieu, a beautiful mountain district located on the China – Vietnam border, 2 hours further from Halong Bay and about 4 hours from Hanoi.

Binh Lieu is known for its stunning mountain landscapes, lush forests, and vibrant terraced fields. The district is home to several ethnic minority groups, including the Tay, San Chay, Hoa and especially, the high-hat Dao people (Dao Thanh Phan) who maintain very well their unique customs and traditions. Binh Lieu was a hidden gem of the country until recently when the highway built connecting the area to other main cities of North Vietnam. This place, with its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage is a perfect destination for nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts who are seeking to experience the authentic charm of Vietnam.

Upon arrive in Binh Lieu, check in to your farmstay in Cao Son, which is surrounded by lush flower gardens and breathtaking mountain landscapes.

After settling in, enjoy a delicious lunch and a short break.

In the afternoon, you will take an easy trek along little trails through anise forest and visit the villages of the Dzao people with their little home dotted on the hillsides and surrounded by terraced fields. During our trek, we'll have the opportunity to witness the local way of life, visit local homes and interacts with locals to learn about the customs and traditions. Also, today you will enjoy a delicious home-cooked dinner at one of the local homes, where we'll have the chance to try some traditional dishes and some home-brew rice whiskey.

After dinner, head back to the farmstay where you will relax and spend the night in a cozy tent surrounded by the peaceful nature.

Binh Lieu trekking and hilltribe experience

After breakfast, get ready for your exciting adventure day in Binh Lieu.

You will get transferred to Song Mooc, another village of the Dao people that is located in a valley within stunning natural surroundings. Take the opportunity to explore the village and its unique culture before heading to the Song Mooc waterfalls, a wonderful nature beauty of Binh Lieu which emerge from the original jungle.

After visiting the waterfalls, you will embark on an exciting trek along buffalo trails through anise and cinnamon forests, passing beautiful villages with houses dotting the hillsides and terraced fields against a backdrop of rolling mountains. You will get to trek through the jungle and reach another village on the other hillside.

Get to another village in other hillside at noon time. Take a break and enjoy a home lunch at one of local home. In the afternoon, take another challenge as you embark on a trek through bamboo forests and untouched paths to reach a pristine and unspoiled waterfall. The trek is a little difficult but offering a unique opportunity to discover the mystical beauty of the jungle and mountains.

Transferred back to the farmstay where you can enjoy your deserved relax and a beautiful dinner by the fire.

Binh Lieu nature & Waterfalls – Halong Bay cruise

Waking up to the serene sounds of nature in Binh Lieu and enjoy the wonderful view of cloud-covered mystic mountains.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the winding mountain road toward Huc Dong, where you will spend time exploring the stunning Khe Van waterfalls, a famous natural beauty of Binh Lieu.

The waterfall has a height of about 100 meters and is divided into three different tiers, each forming a pristine blue lake at its base with strong current of emerald water cascading over the rock creating a spectacular sight.

Take your time to explore the waterfall and the surrounding landscape. If you like, make a climb to the upper level to discover further and to have the view of the whole waterfalls from above.

Continue your drive to Halong city where you will embark the boat at about 12.30 for a wonderful cruise on the spectacular Halong Bay.

Weather: The weather in this part of Southeast Asia is varied depening on the region and season. In the winter time from Nov to Feb, the temperature in some area such as North Vietnam, especially mountainous areas can be as low as 2-4 Degree Celsius (35 Degree Fahrenheit) and pretty cold. Other parts can be warm with temperature up to 36 Degree Celsius or more (96 Degree Fahrenheit). What to take: What you need to bring will vary according to the trip style you have chosen, the countries you are visiting and when you are travelling. Generally speaking you should pack as lightly as possible. It is advisable to have your backpack or suitcase with wheels. An overnight bag with a shoulder strap or little backpacks is convenient to carry water and a camera etc for day trips. Warm clothes and light jacket are needed for the North Vietnam and northern Lao during the winter time from November to March. Sunblock, swimsuits and a light raincoat is advised all year round.
