Naypyidaw, a strange capital

Overview of Naypyidaw

Naypyidaw (or Nay Pyi Taw) is the most mysterious capital in the world. While Yangon has thousand years of age, Nay Pyi Taw can be considered very young, was just born in late 2005. The name Nay Pyi Tawy means the “Royal city” or “Residence of Kings” was announced in 2006 when the role as the capital of Yangon was officially transferred to Nay Pyi Taw. The city was built in the small village of Kyatpyae, about 10km from Pyinmana town.

Nay Pyi Taw is not famous as a main Myanmar tourist attraction. But if you do not like the crowded, noisy, narrow and full of dust generated by the traffic and like to explore the wilderness, the Naypyidaw capital is the most accurate choice. Attractions in Naypyidaw

Water Fountain Garden is one of the main attractions to visit Naypyidaw. This garden is 67ha large and locates near the Naypyidaw City Hall and National Herbal Park. This is the space of full of flowers, trees, and plants. In a steel structure arch-way but the garden is so charming with a main pond with three fountains and 11 small ponds with 13 dazzling water fountains, 9.1m high clock tower, not to mention recreation centers, other smaller gardens, and very green footpaths. The best time to admire the beauty here is in the evening when the water emerges in the colorful lights.

Uppatasanti Pagoda - also known as the name “Peace Pagoda” - is the outstanding landmark in the capital and in all must-visited list in the day tour.

Being built in 2006, thanks to its unique architecture this massive building has earned many good reputations. It has the similar shape and size to the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon with the height of 99m (just 30cm shorter than the legendary one in Yangon). The pillar base of the pagoda is so gigantic that is comparable to a hill and is completely man-made built.

There is the relics of Buddha's teeth from China is preserved here.

In the pagoda precinct, there are image of Buddha Maha Hsutaungpyae, 4 jade Buddha painting in the empty caves, garden with 108 Sri Maha Bodhi, 4 jade Buddha paintings in the hollow caves of the temple, a 33m-high flagpole, even museum, hotel and many other works in the huge pagoda complex.

The pagoda has become the dignified symbol of the Nay Pyi Taw capital city.

Naypyidaw Zoological Gardens is the largest zoo in Southeast Asia and an attractive destination to visit in Nay Pyi Taw. This is home of about 420 animals (elephants, tigers…) living in their untouched nature and a temperature-controlled penguin house.

Locates along the Yangon - Mandalay highway, the Safari Park with 1.2km2 area is the collection into African, Australian and Asian theme with more than 100 different animal species from all over the world that is some have been moved from the zoos in Yangon and some is imported.
