Is Thailand safe to visit in 2022

From 22nd December 2021, Thailand Pass system will temporarily suspend all new applications for the Test and Go and Sandbox Program (except Phuket Sandbox), until further notice is released. So is Thailand fully opened for tourism in 2022?

Is Thailand now open to foreign tourists?

With the fear of new Covid 19 virus Omicron, Thai Government decided to suspend the Test and Go and Sandbox Program. That means you now cannot apply for a new QR code to enter the country. But if you have received a QR code before 22nd of December, you will still be approved to enter the country. What do I need to enter Thailand in 2022?

Visa and Passport

General tourists are not required to apply for a Thai Visa. Since December 2020, visitors from countries under the Visa Exemption List are not required to obtain a Thai visa to travel to Thailand for tourism purposes. The Thai Immigration Bureau will allow foreigners to stay in Thailand for 30 days. Tourists will have the option to apply for 30 days visa extension at any local immigration office in Thailand. The visa extension due to COVID-19 is valid for 60 days.

Vaccinated Certification

To enter Thailand, you need to prove that you have already got 2 doses of the Covid 19 vaccine. So please keep a vaccinated certification together with your travel documents.
After being allowed to enter the country, you still need to follow 14 days of quarantine.

Covid 19 Negative Test Result

To enter Thailand, all travellers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result that is released 72 hours before arrival in Thailand at maximum.

Health Insurance with medical coverage

Travellers are subject to COVID-19 RT-PCR test upon arrival, airport medical sceening and 14-day quarantine at their own expense when travel to Thailand. A completed health declaration form must be presented upon arrival

Do I need to quarantine when visiting Thailand in 2022?

Fully vaccinated travelers from the listed Low-Risk Countries are allowed to enter Thailand without quarantine. Of course there are requirements:

  • Fully vaccinated for more than 14 days before traveling
  • Residing in the country of departure for at least 21 days
  • Must book a SHA+ Hotel for at least one night while waiting for the result of the RT PCR COVID test taken upon arrival
  • Must possess a COVID-19 Insurance.
